Native American Sand Painting

Sandpainting is another art of the Navajo tribe. It was originally done for ceremonial purposes only, but today is being commercialized by Navajo artists using the many colored sands of Navajoland. The paintings are representations of the great signs or charts which make up the heart of Navajo religion.

This Eagle Dancer Sand Painting was created as a demonstration at an Indian Fair held in Mesa, Arizona in 1987. It was created by a member of the Navajo nation and sold to us at the close of the fair. We had it professionally framed. The size of the painting itself is 12" square. It is not under glass.
